I came across Charles Bradley online for the first time yesterday, and I must say that I am extremely impressed by this smooth soul singer. Charles Bradley saw James Brown performing at the Appollo 40 years ago and as he saw the Godfather of Soul perform he knew that this is what he wanted to do too!
Unfortunately, he's had a rough life, many jobs, and many obstacles before he made his big break with Daptone Records. Even though he had many hardships he never gave up on his dream, and it payed off. Gabriel Roth of Daptone Records happened upon him performing his Black Velvet act at the Tarheel Lounge in Bedstuy. Roth recognized his raw talent and directly brought him into the Daptone “House of Soul” Studios for a session with the Sugarman 3. "Take It As It Comes" was Charles' first single on Daptone and it proved him as a worthy vocalist.
Now at 62 years old he just released his first soul album "No Time For Dreaming" with the help of people who Charles Bradley says "believed in him".
Make sure to check out his website and bio, it's absolutely fascinating: http://thecharlesbradley.com
